Students inspired by cultural visits
Students on a trip to Chatsworth House
Art and design students have been venturing out to gather inspiration and facts for their next projects.
National Extended Diploma in Art and Design Commercial Design (Fashion, Interiors and 3D) learners took a trip to Derbyshire’s Chatsworth House, where they experienced the ‘Imaginary Conversations’ exhibition which has been produced in association with the fashion house, Erdem.
Students enjoyed a warm day gathering primary imagery for their current project entitled ‘Design is in the Detail’.
Teachers and students experienced a thought-provoking time in both the house and gardens, ready to take their ideas back to the classroom to use within their own projects.
Student Lily Thomason said: “The trip was really good! As a group it’s really helped us in taking our projects regarding Chatsworth forward. It has given us endless amounts of inspiration to use for our work, from aspects like architectural elements, interior elements and decorative detailing within the house. It has definitely excited and motivated me to continue developing my project forward.”
Meanwhile, Advanced Art and Design Practice Commercial Design (3D, Fashion and Interiors) students took to Sheffield’s Botanical Gardens and Sheffield Winter Gardens, gathering images of all the plant shapes to put towards their ‘Botanical Beginnings’ project.
Students have been asked to take inspiration from these venues to create a print design that can be used in partnership with the Tramlines Festival and the City of Sheffield.
The group created sketches to use within their work and teachers are looking forward to helping the group to digitise and refine their drawings to turn them into commercially print-ready patterns.
