Level 2 Cabin Crew students welcomed local schoolchildren aboard Vision Air to practice their customer service, hospitality and flight-safety demonstration skills.
Year 6 pupils from High Oakham Primary School boarded the plane and enjoyed a lively quiz and word-search challenge with drinks, cakes and biscuits delivered on the hospitality trolley.
But first, the students delivered a thorough safety demonstration of how to fasten the seatbelts, adjust the oxygen masks and wear life jackets in case of an emergency!
The first in-flight experience with the school featured a true boarding process, health and safety demonstrations, entertainment based on the cultural calendar, and a snacks and refreshment service.
Student Konnie Cotton said: “We introduced the children to the green safety cards which, as passengers on a plane, they would see. They really paid attention to the quiz and the presentation about how to protect themselves from bullying. Everyone enjoyed the in-flight trolley service goodies too.
“It was a good experience to practice our in-flight drills with this group and it gave us a confidence boost.”
Programme area leader for travel and tourism Hannah Locke said: “We were thrilled to launch our new in-flight services experience with the schoolchildren. This project will allow learners to provide in-flight services to a wide range of customers, offering them hands-on experience in a real-world setting.
“Over the coming months we will be welcoming more pupils from High Oakham Primary School and other departments across the college.
“Congratulations to our students for their outstanding performance. They all demonstrated professionalism, attention to detail, and excellent customer service, bringing the in-flight experience to life.
“It was inspiring to see them all apply the skills they’ve been learning in such a real-world setting.”
Kayleigh Beardall, a year 6 teacher at the school, said: “The children had a fantastic experience of seeing what is to come when they choose to come to college.
“They've really enjoyed seeing the plane and understanding how West Notts students learn about aviation and getting involved in the quiz that the students set for them.
“It was really good to see the presentation about respect and kindness, especially with our visit coinciding with Anti-Bullying Week, as it tied in very well.”
