The college celebration of the year
West Nottinghamshire College students will be enjoying one of the grandest celebrations of the college year next Friday (25 June).
The celebration of achievement event ranks as one of the highlights of the college year which sees students from each school of learning recognised for achievements over and above their studies, for overcoming adversity and for being truly outstanding.
This year, principal and chief executive Asha Khemka will present certificates and awards at Mansfield’s Civic Centre to around 50 students who have been nominated by their tutors for recognition at the event. Asha will also present five outstanding achievement awards, the apprentice of the year award and the overall principal’s award.
Joining Asha on stage to present certificates to the colleges Ashfield campus will be Deborah Wray, business manager for City & Guilds East Midlands. City & Guilds have kindly sponsored the awards for the courses at Ashfield which are geared towards supporting students who have otherwise been classed at NEETs (not in education, employment or training).
Attending the event will be family and friends of the students, tutors and VIP guests Terry Laws, head of service for standards and commissioning for Children’s and Young People’s Services, Mansfield mayor Tony Egginton, Chairman of Ashfield District Council Councillor Mick Parker and Baroness Verma who is the spokesperson for education and skills at the House of Lords.
