Students run, row and ride for charity
West Nottinghamshire College’s foundation studies learners were full of energy last week as they organised a run, row and ride charity fundraiser challenge - covering a distance of over 130 miles.
The group of 18 were given free use of facilities at Fitness First gym in Mansfield to undertake their fundraising challenge which saw them cover the distance of running a marathon on the treadmills (26.2 miles), rowing the equivalent of crossing the Channel on the rowing machines (24 miles) and then taking to the exercise bikes to cover approximately 80 miles – the same as cycling from Mansfield to Skegness.
The group raised almost £150 for two local charities and the money will be split between the Riding School for the Disabled which is based in Rainworth and Camp Quality UK - a national charity which organises camping holidays for seriously ill children.
The college’s sport development co-ordinator, Rachael Evans, who supported the challenge, said: “The day was a massive achievement for all students who took part. I think some of them surprised themselves at just how much they could do. Everyone involved tried each piece of gym equipment and helped towards the final mileage and raising those vital funds for our chosen charities.”
