Students to show off their talent at UK Skills competition
Beauty therapy students from West Nottinghamshire College’s ‘Academy’ - the college’s Mansfield town centre-based salon are set to impress judges with their practical skills at the UK Skills competition heats this month.
Kim Downs, 17, Nicola Scott, 18 and Jenny Radcliffe, 41, will be putting their skills to the test at Wakefield College on 20 May, performing treatments such as facials and make-up, half leg wax, manicure, full body massage, body treatments and reflexology.
Judges will assess the techniques of Kim who is entering the intermediate beauty therapy competition, Nicola who is entering the advanced beauty therapy category and Jenny in the holistic reflexology section.
Associate director of learning for hairdressing and beauty therapy, Diane Lacey, said: “Everyone at The Academy is behind the girls who have been put forward to the UK Skills. We’re very confident that their high level abilities will take them through to the finals.
“To have our students competing nationally truly reflects that the skills we teach are right up to date in the sector and that our learners have developed such confidence to be able to compete at a national level.”
Winners from this year’s competitions will compete to go forward to represent the UK in the World Skills competitions in London in 2011.
