Create Expo 2018 is a chance to learn from creative geniuses from visual effects, motion graphics, 3D animation, virtual reality, film and TV production, and video games.
The college’s fourth annual Create Expo on Thursday 21 June brings together six expert speakers over one unique day for a series of masterclasses and live demonstrations on the latest design-related techniques, technology and trends.
It takes place from 9.30am to 4.30pm in the Create building at its Derby Road campus, Mansfield.
Morning speakers and demonstrators include Paul Colls, co-founder and creative director of games development studio Fierce Kaiju, who has worked on hit titles Grand Theft Auto and Call of Duty; and Matt Burkey, lead 3D artist at Nottingham-based animation and video production company Think Allowed, whose projects have spanned prototype demonstrations and VFX for films and music videos.
Nicola Mills and Tim Bassford, senior project manager and creative director respectively at global creative agency Spinning Clock, which has managed event campaigns for NHS Change4Life and Disney Junior and produced content for the BBC, Wilko and Speedo, complete the morning line-up.
In the afternoon people can hear from Paul Mowbray, director of NSC Creative, the immersive storytelling studio based at the National Space Centre, which has worked on some of the world’s most popular Fulldome documentaries; Matt Knott, a partner at design and animation studio Versus, whose clients have ranged from Disney and Nickelodeon to MTV and Burberry; and Steve Clarke, a VFX artist who has applied his skills on almost 60 movies across genres from family to sci-fi and horror.
The expo will also include a showcase of work by BA (Hons) Creative Digital Media students Luke Buxton, James Corton, Amy Edwards, Jordon Smith-Durham, Carrie-Anne Daines and Wai Hung Tsang, who are all aspiring mixed-media artists.
The event, which is the brainchild of creative media tutor Tony Hall, has been held annually since 2015 to nurture the next generation of graphic artists while bringing together industry professionals to shine a light on the latest creative techniques.
Mr Hall said: “I’m delighted we have secured another impressive line-up of VFX, 3D, concept and graphics specialists for this year’s Create Expo. It’s an amazing opportunity to learn from high-calibre practitioners operating at the very top of their professions and take a close look at the skills, techniques and software that enables them to unleash their creative potential and produce truly pioneering work.
“Students and guests can’t fail to be inspired by the talent in the room and apply the learning to their own careers, design hobbies or next steps in their education.”
Create Expo 2018 is open to anyone with an interest in graphics or wishing to pursue a career in the sector.
Tickets cost £5 per person (free to students), which provides access to the main speakers plus the opportunity to book on to other events happening throughout the day. Refreshments are included.
