College to host National Guild of Bricklayers' regional competition
Two West Nottinghamshire College bricklaying students are getting the mortar mixed and trowels ready to take part in The Guild of Bricklayers annual bricklaying competition that has been running since the 1970s.
Jordan Edwards, 19, from Kirkby-in-Ashfield and Jordan Freely, 18, of Sutton-in-Ashfield are studying on the first and second year diploma in brickwork course at West Nottinghamshire College which will be playing host to the annual National Guild of Bricklayers’ Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire regional competitions next week at it’s Kirkby-in-Ashfield Construction and Logistics Academy (17 May).
Other colleges taking part in the competitions will be Lincoln College, North Lindsey College, Derby College, Grantham College, Grimsby College and Chesterfield College.
West Nottinghamshire College is the defending champion of the senior finals which was won last year by then student Matt Tebbett from Mansfield Woodhouse.
Programme area leader for brickwork at West Nottinghamshire College, Tim Bond, said: “Both young men have worked really hard to raise the standards of their bricklaying skills and we have great confidence that they will do well in the competition heats.
“They are very competent in their work and will certainly do well in their future careers in the construction industry.”
The winning competitors will take part in the competition’s finals with the date and host college to be announced later in the year after all the regional heats have been held.
