Fitness fundraiser at West Notts
NVQ activity leadership students at West Nottinghamshire College will be combining fitness and fundraising during a three-day event next week.
The vocational group of 16 students will be running various activities on the football field at the college’s Derby Road site in Mansfield – and inviting fellow learners to take part in return for a small donation to charity.
Activities taking place from Tuesday to Thursday (11-13 May) between 10am–3pm each day include 8-ball wonder shooting and ‘keepy-up’ football competitions, an assault course, golf-chipping, foam javelin throwing, three-legged relay and a shoot-the-hoop netball challenge.
Funds raised over the three days will go to Cancer Research UK.
Sports studies tutor Richard Chapman said: “This group of learners have worked exceptionally hard all year developing their skills in planning and leading different types of sporting activities.
“The activity week gives them the opportunity to show off their skills while having their final NVQ projects observed by assessors, which will complete their portfolios.
“This will to be a fun way for them to finish their course and achieve the aims they set back in September. The students themselves came up with the fundraising idea, which reflects the strong ethos on citizenship than runs through the curriculum.”
