Careering ahead with industry knowledge at college
More than 20 local and regional businesses and organisations attended a careers event staged by West Nottinghamshire College last week.
A successful careers and open event was held at the Derby Road campus
The open evening and careers event, which took place at the Derby Road campus in Mansfield on Wednesday evening (15 November), was designed to give parents and potential students an insight into careers that exist post-study.
Companies from a range of sectors such as public services, care, engineering, hospitality, construction and childcare, were on hand to give careers advice to visitors to the campus.
Well-known organisations such as Linney Group, King’s Mill Hospital, the Royal Navy, Nottinghamshire Police, Fidler and Pepper and Wildgoose Construction had representatives available to speak to visitors about the range of careers and how to take their first steps towards a rewarding career.
Tutors were on-hand to advise people of the full and part-time courses available at the college and provided details of how to enrol.
Learner engagement manager Stephanie Hoult said: “The careers event was a great success and well-attended by businesses and prospective students alike. Guests were able to get hands-on advice on how to get on the right path towards a career of their dreams and were able to combine knowledge about each company with the correct study advice from staff, to give them a head-start into enrolling on the right courses for their needs.
“This kind of careers event is definitely something that we’d like to replicate at the college so that more people can seek the best advice from some of the top employers in the district.”
