Walk to West Notts Wednesday
West Nottinghamshire College will be joining in with the national ‘Walk to Work Week’ campaign (26-30 April), with its second ‘Walk to West Notts Wednesday’ (28 April).
Last year staff and students took part in the walk covering between one and 11 miles each in their quest to walk to college. Groups of staff and students also walked the two miles from Mansfield bus station to the college’s Derby Road campus in support of the campaign and will be doing the same again next week.
Sport development co-ordinator, Rachael Evans, has been drumming up interest for this year’s walk and has many people signed up already, including schools academy manager Cate Hunt, who will be walking 7 miles from her home in King’s Clipstone.
Rachael said: “Last year I walked 11 miles from home to work, so I threw down the gauntlet this year for others to meet or beat my score! I shall be walking from home in Mapperley again to get into the spirit of the event.”
“We’ve had great success this year with getting staff and students into exercising more and have just completed the pedometer challenge which lots of people took up. Most who took a pedometer walked the recommended 10,000 steps a day.”
The Students’ Union will be leaving Mansfield bus station on foot at 8am on 28 April and everyone who ‘Walks to West Notts’ on the Wednesday will be entered into a prize draw to win an HMV voucher.
