Students provide top recovery service

Computer science students at West Nottinghamshire College are enjoying success with a brand new enterprise they’ve established for staff and students.

  • The Recover team can repair iPhones and PCs

Recover, the new venture providing iPhone and computer repairs and fault diagnostics, is the brainchild of five students on the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in IT (Networking and Systems Support).

Running the business alongside their studies, David Brockhouse, Ben Foulston, Jacob Gill, George Allwood and Brandon Hough are giving staff and students at the college a high-quality on-site service for phone and PC faults at competitive prices.

The group has the backing of the college’s IT support team and student enterprise team and are running the repairs business as a commercial venture, the same as the on-campus restaurant, Refined and the spa and salons, Revive.

Work on phone and PC repairs are done during the students’ lunch breaks and they offer a free diagnostic service along with the competitively priced repairs. As they progress, they intend to induct new students into the business so that it continues each academic year.

David Brockhouse, 29, said: “Recover is proving to be a great success and even though it’s a small business, we’re working hard to maintain professional standards and want customers to have the best service.

We’re students, working with students, working for students and we’re keeping prices as low as possible. We want people to take us seriously as we’ve invested a lot of time, especially on researching the legal side and developing risk assessments to back up the company.”

Ben Foulston, 16, who has built the business website, said: “We’re in a good position to have the support from lecturers if we come across a problem that needs further diagnosis and we have all the best equipment to use.

“There has been a number of people outside of college asking if they can use the service, but while the business is in its infancy and we’re still studying, unfortunately we can’t offer that yet.

“We’ve all built up our confidence and business skills as well as stretching our technical abilities and we’re really enjoying the job and we’re looking forward to rolling it out to new students.”
