Undergraduates to showcase projects to employers
Over 50 university-level students at West Nottinghamshire College are preparing their final work-related projects to go on display for local employers to view and join in the celebration of their success and hard work.
The ‘Employer Showcase’ event will take place at the college’s Derby Road campus from 3.30-7pm on 15 April and is the first of its kind at the college and will feature final year foundation degree students’ projects at a number of stands and via a picture show reel.
The students who are studying sport, computing and business and management related subjects, will be able to engage with local employers to discuss their projects in detail and request professional feedback from them.
One of the aims of the event is for students to develop their employability skills needed to make a significant impact in today’s challenging and competitive business environments, as well as giving employers the opportunity to meet the undergraduates and discuss their projects in detail and offer their own perspectives of the projects to students.
The college’s HE development manager, Dani MacKinnon, said: “This will be a wonderful opportunity for our learners to articulate the development and results of their projects to employers in our community. It will also give them a chance to raise awareness of just what West Nottinghamshire College can provide in terms of university-standard qualifications and work-based opportunities.
“We will be welcoming feedback from employers on the standards achieved by our undergraduates and their employability potential. This will be a great networking opportunity for students as well as a forum to develop new skills and confidence with new audiences.”
Prospective new students will be invited along to the event to give them an insight into their future studies as well as representatives from the college’s partner universities – Leeds Metropolitan University and the University of Derby.
Employers who are interested in attending this event and meeting the students are very welcome and should contact Dani MacKinnon at Danielle.mackinnon@wnc.ac.uk or on 01623 627191 ext 8697.
