Students enjoy festival of lights
Travel and tourism students from West Nottinghamshire College have enjoyed a cultural visit to Leicester to discover more about Diwali earlier this month.
During their visit on 1 November, the students visited The New Market Museum to see the Diwali exhibition, as well as touring The Golden Mile, visiting Indian sweet shops and seeing local, traditional customs associated with the festival.
They learnt more about the Hindu festival, which signifies the victory or light over darkness, during a tour of the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Temple.
Travel and tourism tutor Sabrina Sandhu said: “This was a very important visit for students who are all aiming to go into careers which could potentially take them overseas.
“Learning about different cultures will deepen their understanding about the many religions and festivals across the globe.”
Student Sophie Hannibal, 16, from Selston, said: “We gained a good understanding of this different culture and their traditions which will help with our coursework and widening our general knowledge.”
