Students celebrate their love of books
More than 50 students were congratulated on their literary efforts this week after completing a national reading challenge.
Celebrating their love of books, foundation studies learners show their achievement certificates
The learners, who are studying on a range of foundation studies programmes at West Nottinghamshire College, were presented with certificates of achievement today (21 June) after completing the Reading Ahead initiative – reading a total of 158 books between them.
Twenty two of the students read six books, with another thirteen reading between one and five books. Each student was asked to choose their books and record, rate and review them in a diary in order to get a certificate.
The Reading Ahead challenge – formerly called the Six Book Challenge – supports young people and adults by changing their perception of reading, opening up opportunities and building their confidence.
Head of care and education studies, Jackie Pugh, said: “We’re delighted to see how much our students have benefitted from getting involved in the reading challenge. They’ve chosen a wide variety of books to read and it’s definitely boosted their confidence with reading as well as their thirst for wanting to read more.
“Well done to all and I hope their interest in books and regularly visiting the college’s library continues.”
