Safety Plus students pass with flying colours
Ten health and safety managers from companies across the country received certificates of achievement from Mansfield-based training company Safety Plus (Training & Consultancy) Ltd, last week for their success on the NVQ Level 4 in Occupational Health and Safety.
Safety Plus is the business arm of West Nottinghamshire College which has delivered NVQs for the college for the past three years in a wide range of subjects.
Over a year ago, Safety Plus became part of the college and provides health and safety training, consultancy, construction and customer service assessment at NVQ levels 2 to 5 to businesses across the UK.
Training is centred around the construction industry but other trades also benefit from study programmes, with over 1,000 NVQs delivered by Safety Plus at any one time.
The recent intake of students are all managers working for companies in construction, printing, pharmaceuticals, electrical, transport and warehousing, up and down the country. The qualification was delivered to them at their places of work and their skills were assessed on-site throughout the past year. One student included Scott Bramley, Safety Plus’ own health and safety consultant.
Safety Plus’ business development director, Gordon Bramley, said: “I am very proud of this group’s progress and I am encouraged that some are considering taking their skills even further to Level 5. Already this qualification earns them ‘Graduate’ status with the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and this enables students to progress onto achieving ‘Chartered’ status with the institution.
“I have been particularly impressed with the quality of their work, which both internal and external verifiers have commented positively on, and they’ve taken great advantage of networking with like-minded colleagues to help them through their studies.”
Safety Plus is currently looking at developing bespoke apprenticeship training with employers to tailor-make programmes for construction apprentices to develop their skills within their trades; eventually earning them a full apprenticeship.
