Green technology advice at college
Local businesses with an interest in environmental technology will be able to see a range of sustainable building products and processes in action at a specialist road show at West Nottinghamshire College’s Construction and Logistics Academy in Kirkby-in-Ashfield this month.
West Nottinghamshire College is one of six colleges in the East Midlands to become members of the East Midlands New Technology Initiative (NTI) Construction Network, which last year won over £500,000 of funding to deliver projects aimed at encouraging the construction industry to employ greener technologies. Each of the colleges will be taking part in the Innovation in Sustainable Construction events throughout February.
The Innovation and Pathfinder Fund road shows are aimed at designers, contractors and students who are interested in topics such as solar thermal systems, biomas boilers, rainwater harvesting, photovoltaic systems, high thermal mass walls, dual fuel systems and other modern methods of construction. This equipment will be on display for people to view.
West Nottinghamshire College’s road show - which takes place on Wednesday 10 February, from 11am to 3.30pm - will be hosted by specialist advisor Jim Harvey, who was employed by the college last year to act as a local source of knowledge for local businesses to access. Jim is currently researching products that reduce domestic electricity use, along with renewable energy products and will be demonstrating these products at the event, along with the specialist advisors from the other colleges involved in the initiative.
Jim said: “The college has been working closely with the construction industry to meet the challenges of the low-carbon economy and this event will focus on even more innovative products that can benefit businesses working towards improving their environmental plans.
“We will be pleased to be working with representatives and specialist advisors from the other colleges in the NTI network and we’ll all be on hand to advise anyone who may be interested in learning more about innovations in sustainable construction.”
