Students to offer a taste of Italy
Italian cuisine will be available at West Nottinghamshire College’s BAY6 Centre and Coffee Bar next week.
The centre, on Woodhouse Road, Mansfield, is preparing a selection of traditional Italian dishes from 16-20 November and will include students serving a local Age Concern group with a tasty lunch on the Tuesday.
Menu options include homemade tomato and basil soup for £1.50, spinach and ricotta cannelloni with salad for £2.50, vegetable or ham and pineapple pizzas for £2.00 followed by tiramisu dessert for £1.00.
Luncheons are regularly hosted for the Mansfield Age Concern group, and students will be extending their hospitality to the group once again on Tuesday 17 November, which will see them busily serving up to twenty individuals.
This Italian menu is the start of this academic year’s nationally-themed meals laid on at the centre, which provides a practical training and working environment for students with learning difficulties or disabilities.
Students have previously served up Polish themed meals, food to celebrate St Patrick’s Day and Easter meals after helping catering staff design the menus and prepare the food.
Food will be available from 11.30am to 2pm, with tea, coffee, cakes and sandwiches also served during these times.
Di Fennell, BAY6 programme area leader, said: “Our students are looking forward to showing off their customer service skills to staff and visitors during the Italian themed week. They’ve been incredibly imaginative and have really enjoyed preparing the ingredients for the menu.
“They are really happy that the Age Concern ladies and gentlemen are visiting for lunch again as they love to give something back to the local community and the students always receive many compliments for their hard work from the group.”
People can just turn up although parties of eight or more are advised to book a table for Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday on 01623 413027.
The BAY6 centre is open to the public for hot and cold refreshments.
