College to remember war heroes in double remembrance service
Staff and students will be remembering war heroes past and present on Wednesday (11 November) with two remembrance services at West Nottinghamshire College.
At the request of a number of students to mark the occasion, the college will be observing a two minutes’ silence at the engineering school of learning at The Engine on Acorn Way, Mansfield, where a poem of remembrance will be read.
Simultaneously, students and staff will gather at the Derby Road site in the West One diner where poems of remembrance will be read by students prior to the 11am two minutes’ silence.
Student governor Sam Allen said: “We felt that it was important as a college to mark the event as most of us have friends or relatives who have either fought in the Second World War, the Gulf War or may be involved in the latest conflicts which we regularly see in the news.
“Students have taken a very mature and dignified approach to requesting remembrance services here at the college and even if people can’t come along to take part, we hope they will observe the two minutes’ silence across the college sites.”
