College supports Black History Month
Black History Month is being embraced at West Nottinghamshire College with an awareness campaign throughout October, complete with lively African drumming sessions for students.
The national awareness campaign is being supported by the student health, welfare and safety team and will pay tribute to important people and events in the history of African culture. Corridors on all college sites will feature a number of inspirational posters celebrating black history and heritage over the coming weeks.
Student advisor Michael Campbell said: “The main aim of the college supporting Black History Month is to enable our students to recognise significant contributions to society made by people with African heritage and how their history is integral to our everyday lives.
“We pride ourselves at West Notts on raising awareness of many cultures and participate in a wide range of events during the academic year. We are particularly pleased to be welcoming Ailon Freedman, drum workshop facilitator. He will be teaching the art of African drumming to students next week (21 October).”
