A fresher start to the college year
Full-time students at West Nottinghamshire College were treated to an entertainment and information-packed two-day event at the Derby Road site, when the annual freshers’ fair took place for new students.
Companies and organisations such as JJB, the army and Nottinghamshire County Council were there to give advice about their services to young people, while students could enquire about volunteering projects and discover how to become the next ‘Youth Mayor’.
The more daring scaled a climbing wall, took a ride on a bucking bronco and had a go on the surfing simulator. Entertainment was in the form of a magician and a fortune teller, and prizes were won on a traditional hook-a-duck stall.
The college's learner voice co-ordinator Sue Harries, who helped to organise the event held on 15 and 16 September, said: “This was our biggest freshers’ fair to date and it proved very useful for our new students, who found out more about their college services as well as having some fun with new friends. Students from all college sites joined in the fun and over 300 joined the Students’ Union.”
