HE Premier Event
Over 150 Students gathered at the Odeon cinema in Mansfield for the HE Premier event on September 17th. College Principal Asha Khemka OBE opened proceedings by welcoming students, before presentations were made by various staff members. External organisations were there too, offering information and advice on volunteering and other community projects.
At the conclusion of the presentations, students were taken to Derby Road, where a range of activities were on offer for them to try their hand at. These included a marquee with information about banking, fitness and learning resources, as well a beat-the-keeper competition, bungee trampolines and a climbing wall. Students were also treated to a sizzling BBQ from Henry’s Kitchen. For those into their music, students from Thoresby Street put on two live performances in the marquee.
A smaller event was held in the evening for those unable to attend during the day; this was a quieter affair where students were given the opportunity to meet with staff whilst enjoying a glass of wine and a sandwich.
The highlight of the evening was a presentation from current student Chris Vardy. Chris spoke passionately about his experiences of higher education at West Nottinghamshire College, and the dramatic changes that education has made to his life.
Plans are now underway for next year’s event, and we welcome your suggestions, comments and ideas to be sent to: peter.ward@wnc.ac.uk
