Helping businesses to think green
A renewable energy expert from West Nottinghamshire College will offer businesses advice about reducing their carbon footprint at a flagship event next month.
Jim Harvey, a specialist advisor in construction and sustainability, will explain about green technologies at East Midlands EXPO 2009 – the region’s major showcase for businesses and organisations involved in delivering sustainable goods and services.
He will also demonstrate renewable energy products on the market including photovoltaic systems and small-scale wind generation kits.
The event takes place on Thursday October 8 at the Walkers Stadium, Leicester, and will feature stands by more than 70 exhibitors, plus workshops and low-carbon technology demonstrations.
West Nottinghamshire College is a member of the East Midlands New Technology Initiative (NTI) Construction Network, which earlier this year won over £500,000 of funding to deliver projects aimed at encouraging the construction industry to employ greener technologies.
Jim will join representatives from member colleges in promoting the network’s Innovation in Sustainable Construction Project. Member colleges have employed specialist advisors to act as a local source of knowledge for businesses to access; with James currently researching products that reduce domestic electricity use, along with renewable energy products.
Jim said: “As a specialist adviser I aim to offer expert advice to design and construction businesses on how sustainable energy products can assist in meeting Government targets to reduce carbon emissions.
“As a member of the East Midlands NTI Construction Network, the college is working closely with the construction industry to meet the challenges of the low-carbon economy and I’m delighted we’re helping them to make a difference.
“Our students are also learning about sustainability, which is equipping them with the knowledge to embrace the green agenda.”
