Staff 'Oscars'
Over 130 staff proudly took to the stage at the end of term for the ‘Staff Oscars’. This event which took place on Friday 26 June was requested by students so they could formally thank tutors and support staff for their dedication and commitment at the College over the last academic year.
Staff picked up awards for a number of categories including best tutor, best student service as well as an overall special award for Cath Barker.
Leslye Henstock from Childcare and Early Years nominated Cath for a very well deserved special award as Cath started to learn to swim in September and finally conquered her fear of water.
Leslye said: “Cath really has blossomed as a tutor this year and we’re all in awe of her finally facing her water demons and she can now swim properly – she’s a very brave lady.”
Cath added: “I was totally taken aback receiving this award but it was lovely! Learning to swim properly has certainly boosted my confidence immensely and I even went down the rapids recently at Center Parcs!”
Sue Harries, Students’ Union Co-ordinator, said: “There was an incredible energy at the Staff Oscars and I was so proud to be part of it. It was a really cheerful atmosphere and I feel it was just what we all needed for the end of term.”
Certificates were handed out by Deputy Principal Tim Grant while childcare student Heather Vernon and Dan Draycott from Thoresby Street entertained the audience by singing a selection of songs.
Football and rounders matches took place between staff and students on the Derby Road sports field after the presentations.
