Celebration of Achievement awards
West Nottinghamshire College students enjoyed an evening of celebration at the College’s annual Student Celebration of Achievement awards at Mansfield Civic Centre on Friday 26 June.
Over 50 awards were presented to students including:
- The Principal’s Special Recognition Awards to Conor Higginson and Deborah Carrington
- Apprentice of the Year award to Matthew Tebbett
- Outstanding Achievement Award to Rebecca McGrath
- Special recognition awards went to Jonathan Dickinson, Deborah Carrington, Larelle Musson, Kevin Aston and Conor Higginson.
Principal Asha Khemka OBE hosted the event, which was attended by VIP guests including the new Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council, Councillor David Taylor, plus civic guests from Ashfield and Mansfield district councils.
Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council, Councillor David Taylor, said: “Asha is a dynamic and forward thinking Principal and so I am not surprised that such high calibre students from her College are being celebrated tonight. West Nottinghamshire College is clearly delivery high quality, engaging education to the people of Mansfield and Ashfield and I have enjoyed my evening, celebrating with the staff, students and their families.”
Four awards were sponsored by national companies that receive and deliver training in partnership with the College. First UK Bus sponsored the Access and Inclusion Award, Center Parcs the Hospitality Award, Linney the Creative Arts Award and DB Schenker the Engineering and Transport Award.
Asha Khemka OBE said: “The event was our celebration of the success of just a few of our students and it also acknowledged every member of staff who supports them. Our students were the stars of the evening and they should be very proud of their achievements and continue to aim high.
“This has been a vintage year for West Nottinghamshire College with so many successes. I know that we can continue to work to a high standard – both staff and students - and reap the rewards we so duly deserve.”
Apprentice of the Year Matthew Tebbett said: “I am really happy to have received these awards tonight. I certainly didn’t expect to get Apprentice of the Year as I won this last year and I was saying to my friends and tutors how bizarre it would be if I won it again!
“I am looking forward to continuing my studies at West Nottinghamshire College next year where I will study the ONC in Management and then hopefully go on to do an HND or HNC in the construction industry.”
