Engineering company reaps success through training
Derby-based engineering company Bombardier celebrated with over a dozen of its staff at its Litchurch Lane site as they received their NVQ Level 2 Business Improvement Techniques qualifications.
Last year Bombardier joined forces with West Nottinghamshire College to look at a robust package of training for its many staff, which took advantage of access to government funding through the Train to Gain initiative.
Qualifications continue to be delivered to the company including specialist plant and machinery operations, warehousing, Skills for Life as well as the Business Improvement Techniques studies at Level 2, Level 3 and Foundation Degree level.
Bombardier’s Competence and Compliance Manager, Kevin Thompson, said: “West Nottinghamshire College has provided us with many training solutions in order for Bombardier to improve its productivity and profitability, as well as continuing professional development for many of our employees.
“We are celebrating the first successes with our employees who have worked hard on the Level 2 Business Improvement Techniques programme.”
Independent Evaluator Andy Hedgecock echoed its success, saying: “Both the College and the company have shown considerable commitment to making sure learning meets the needs of the business and the people it employs. From the outset everyone involved has put a great deal of energy into measuring success.
“The College and partner providers are listening carefully to team leaders and individual learners. The response from staff and managers is excellent so far. This reflects the commitment of the College’s partners at Bombardier to making it work.”
Nick Watson, Compliance Engineer at Bombardier, was one of the students collecting his certificate. He said: “Completing this NVQ has given me a qualification that will assist me in my future development beyond my current job.
“The NVQ was carried out in a way that was not disruptive to my normal work activities and I am looking forward to completing further NVQs, which can only add to my future development.”
