Talking men’s health at West Nottinghamshire College
Diabetes, testicular cancer and prostate cancer are the topics for discussion at the ‘Men’s Health Week’ event at West Nottinghamshire College next week.
Staff from the health, safety and welfare team will be on hand for students at all College sites throughout the week as well as representatives from sexual health service Sexions and the College nurse.
Student Advisor Michael Campbell said: “One of the health matters we’re focussing closely on next week will be testicular cancer. We’ll be providing a knowledgeable insight for our students to help them identify what to look out for regarding checking their testicles.
“It is a highly-treatable and curable type of cancer and we will be offering both open and confidential advice to not just our male students, but females too. Girls can help to encourage their partners to be health-aware. ”
Advice will also be provided on prostate cancer and diabetes. There will be a nurse on hand to provide Body Mass Index (BMI) advice, as well as diabetes and cholesterol testing. Sports Co-ordinator Rachael Evans will also be available to give students general fitness and well-being tips.
Student representatives will be playing their part at the health events too, by handing out health information leaflets to fellow students and signposting them to the health team for further confidential advice.
The health, safety and welfare team will be at the following sites from 12-2pm:
Monday 15 June - Derby Road and Thoresby Street, Mansfield
Tuesday 16 June - Chesterfield Road campus, Mansfield & Station Park campus, Kirkby-in-Ashfield
Wednesday 17 June - The Engine, Acorn Way, Mansfield
