Luke celebrates presidential role
Luke Frakes, Sabbatical Officer for West Nottinghamshire College’s Students’ Union, is taking on a new role at the College after being voted as the SU President for the new academic year.
Luke takes over from Dean Lambert as President and is looking forward to getting to grips with his new role and introducing some fresh initiatives for the students.
Currently, Luke is in the middle of preparing for a student volunteering visit to Ghana in July, where he and three students along with Emma Leaver, Schools Liaison Co-ordinator, will be working with orphans and school children in the village of Mpraeso.
Luke said: “I'm really looking forward to my new role and am hoping to engage our students in lots of local volunteering projects, as well as working closely with our international students.
“I will be ensuring the new academic year is a fun-filled one for all and one of my first tasks will be to talk to students about who we should choose as our charity of the year.”
As Luke takes on the role of President on 1st July, he will be joined by new Sabbatical Officer Dean Renshaw, 23, from Selston. Dean is currently completing his national diploma in music at the College’s Thoresby Street campus.
Dean said: “I applied for the role as Sabbatical Officer as I wanted to learn more about West Nottinghamshire College and be able to work closely with the students, supporting their needs within the SU.
"As someone who enjoys sports, I have a lot of fresh ideas around sport that I hope to get students interested and involved in. I can’t wait to join!”
