It’s a West Notts winter wonderland
Travel and tourism students at West Nottinghamshire College have taken their classmates on a journey into a winter wonderland this week.
Travel and tourism students put on a Christmas event with style
Over 60 learners staged a talent show for other students on travel and tourism courses at the college’s Derby Road campus on Wednesday (16 December), in the lead up to the Christmas break.
The talent show, put on by first and second year students on the BTEC Diploma in Travel and Tourism, featured acts such as Bad Baby, I’m a Tourism Student Get Me Out of Here and a range of quizzes and competitions all with a winter wonderland theme.
The event also raised cash for the Mercedes Curnow Foundation which promotes the awareness of cervical cancer. Students sold tickets to the show, hot chocolate and raffle tickets to help bring in the money.
Every year, the students are challenged to organise and market their own talent show, which is part of their event management assignments on the diploma.
Travel and tourism programme area leader Sarah Heeley said: “This is one of my most favourite events of the year. This year the students have really impressed me with their organisational skills and their enthusiasm to put on a glittering event.
“The end results made me very proud and the variety of talent, the attention to detail throughout the planning and their dedicated approach to working as a team has shown me that their professionalism will see them go far in their chosen careers.”
