Stefan’s sweet success
A graduating chef from West Nottinghamshire College’s professional cookery course is set to make guests’ mouths water on Friday 5 June, as they tuck into his menu of English cuisine at the College’s Number 19 Brasserie.
Stefan Burton, 22, from Mansfield, completes his Level 3 in Professional Cookery in the next few weeks after attending College for four years. He began by taking his GCSEs, and then studied on an Entry to Employment course before starting his catering courses.
Stefan said: “Soon after joining the Level 1 course I realised that one day I’d like a career in cooking. I have come a long way at West Notts and the College has sparked my desire to cook. I really want to concentrate on becoming a top pastry chef, as I enjoy putting together attractive and tasty dishes.”
Stefan’s menu includes a roasted red pepper risotto and pesto dressing starter, followed by a main course of rib eye steak with fondant potatoes and vine tomatoes, and a dessert of vanilla pannacotta amongst many other dishes.
Stefan currently works part time at Saint’s café, late bar and lounge in Mansfield and hopes to carry on full-time in the kitchens after his studies. In the longer term, Stefan has great aspirations.
“When people ask where I would like to be in five years’ time, I say that I’d love to be working in a top city restaurant perfecting my favourite pastry dishes.”
