Hostages, humour and humanity at college theatre
A funny yet heart-breaking tale of three men held captive comes to West Nottinghamshire College’s Create Theatre in a triple billing this week.
Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me was originally written by Frank McGuinness and will be performed by The Kitchen Table Trio who examine the human spirit and creative imagination.
Coming to the Derby Road-based theatre on Thursday, Friday and Saturday (9-11 July), the play tells the story of three men – Adam, an American doctor, Edward, an Irish journalist and Michael, an English academic.
The three have been taken hostage in Lebanon and are sharing a confined space in a featureless room. Uniting the three is their common humanity and efforts to cling on to it.
The play, which is full of comedy and pathos throughout, sees the men passing their time with stories of their families and recreating events from their lives to try to survive.
The studio production, which starts at 7.30pm, is limited to a 30 person audience each night, and puts audience members right in the midst of the trio’s plight.
Tickets cost £7 each and can be purchased online by visiting www.ticketsource.co.uk/thekitchentabletrio
