Catering and hospitality students have been busy with a year of fundraising for Sheffield-based Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice and presented their cheque last week at the Derby Road campus.
A total of £1,451.47 was handed over to the North Notts and North Derbyshire community fundraiser Russell Hall on Thursday (25 June) after a year of student fundraising efforts.
Throughout the year, students have organised and led money-raising initiatives such as charity dinners, prize raffles, name the bear competitions as well as a Halloween-themed guess the weight of the pumpkin contest.
Russell said: “We’re always trying to reach out to young people and often young people get a bad press. That’s not the case in my experience as many young people kindly donate to our cause and the students at West Notts have been marvellous with their fundraising.
“This money will go towards refurbishing our eight bedrooms. Each bedroom costs £7,000 and they’re in need of updating so it’s great that this money will go towards creating modern, comfortable rooms for the children who stay at the hospice.”
