On Thursday (21 May) three learners from the Huthwaite Road-based campus sweated it out in a triathlon backed by the college’s sport maker Kevin Hatton and Ashfield campus team leader Joe Edwards.
Vehicle technology students Brendan Carpenter and Liam Smith joined childcare student Demi Greensmith for a mile and a half run from the Derby Road campus to Berry Hill Park, followed by a stationary bike relay at the college’s sports hall, which covered 6.3 miles collectively.
They completed their triathlon prowess with a swimming challenge at Sutton’s Lammas Centre which saw them swim a total of 34 lengths – an equivalent of half a mile. The group were also joined by hairdressing and beauty therapy student Tiffini Hurley for the swimming challenge.
Their sporting efforts will earn them an estimated total of £150 which will be used to buy food essentials for the St Mary’s Church food bank.
Joe Edwards said: “I’m incredibly proud of the group’s efforts today. We were blessed with good weather for the run and they were very enthusiastic about doing all three activities.
“Students at the Ashfield Centre came up with the fundraising idea for their local food bank and they’re keen to continue with helping their local communities in this way.”
