International fashion business teams up with college to train stars of the future
Leading womenswear manufacturer David Nieper has launched a new apprenticeship in conjunction with West Nottinghamshire College.
David Nieper has teamed up with the college to offer an apprenticeship in its cutting department
Working in partnership with the college, the British fashion house that designs and manufactures all its luxury womenswear in Alfreton, Derbyshire, is to offer an apprenticeship opportunity for a technical operative working in its cutting department.
This is a full-time apprentice position with potential for a permanent role and career progression within the rapidly expanding company. The apprentice will learn fabric handling, material cutting and garment make up, as well as training to use cutting equipment and machinery. The company is also offering apprenticeship roles in print, knitwear and design technology.
Craig Done, business training consultant at the college, said: “This is the first time we have worked with David Nieper and we’re hoping the success of this exciting new apprenticeship will lead to many more opportunities. David Nieper is a really inspiring company and an apprentice role like this doesn’t come around very often, so we’re expecting lots of interest from people keen to benefit from the specialist training and careers on offer.”
Pamela Holland, human resources manager at David Nieper, said: “This apprenticeship provides a very rare and exciting opportunity to join an international fashion business to learn a trade and get paid. The apprentice that joins us, will gain skills for life and receive in-depth training from some of the very best fashion, technical and manufacturing experts in the business.
“We would urge people with a willing attitude and passion for excellence to get in-touch as there has never been a better time to start a career in the Made in Britain fashion industry.”
Employing more than 230 highly skilled people, David Nieper is also offering full-time, part-time and evening positions, including careers as a sewing room supervisor, works engineer/senior electrician, skilled sewing machinists and is also looking for trainee seamstresses with full training provided.
In the past five years, David Nieper has taken on more than 100 new staff, launched its own brand new knitwear department, opened an in-house print division and more than doubled the size of its business. The company also runs its own Fashion Academy – training and nurturing fashion manufacturing skills for the future.
