Business leaders share management advice
Business leaders brought their expertise to the table last week by sharing their knowledge with university-level students at West Nottinghamshire College.
Three of the employer forum panel, Glenn Wilson, Gail Matthews and Caroline Cox
The event, on Thursday (16 April), organised by the college’s higher education business and management team, saw employers from organisations in the Mansfield and Ashfield areas attend the Employer Forum which gave students an opportunity to interact directly with the local business community.
The key speaker was Caroline Cox, operations director at business networking organisation Mansfield 2020, and guests included the college’s director of human resources Tracey Thompson, Carolyn Spencer from the Federation of Small Businesses, and Gail Matthews HR director at Compass Group UK.
During the forum, students who are studying business and management course modules were able to pose questions ranging from management strategies to how to succeed in interviews. The subject of women in business also provoked lively discussion.
Programme area leader for travel and tourism Sarah Heeley attended the forum with students on the Foundation Degree in Tourism and Event Management. She said: “The event was really interesting and it gave the students an excellent opportunity to find out what the industry is really like and what local employers are really looking for.
“I especially liked the questions around interview techniques and what to do at an interview to ensure you give the right impression - this is really valuable for any student starting off in the world of work.”
