Treats and treatments for a worthy cause
The kettles were on the boil and the cake platters over-spilling down at West Nottinghamshire College today (27 September), as staff and students got into fundraising mode for the national Macmillan Cancer Support’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning event.

Leading the main staff organised cake stall were HR co-ordinator Talia Baranowski and people development manager Sara Arnold who sold a selection of cakes and cookies kindly bought in and made by colleagues.
Tasty treats such as lemon drizzle cake, chocolate nut fudge, scones, Malteser cake, chocolate orange brownies, cherry oat bake, cookies, and rocky road were served-up with cups of tea and coffee for a small donation to the national cause.
The home-made delights were judged by chef tutors in the hospitality team, who scored the cakes on their taste, appearance, texture and overall presentation.
Sara Arnold said: “A huge thank you to everyone who supported our cake sales and helping us raise £267. I was pleasantly surprised to win the baking competition with my chocolate orange brownies – I promise it wasn’t fixed!”
Meanwhile over in the college’s Revive salons, hairdressing and beauty therapy students were also busy selling their range of cakes and creations as well as offering express treatments to add to the charity funds.
Guests could purchase a £5 ticket which included tea or coffee, a piece of cake and a taster treatment of a blow-dry, hair-up, nail file and polish or a hand and arm massage in the salons.
The college’s principal and chief executive Andrew Cropley even enjoyed a treatment from Level 1 beauty student Shannon Smith before drawing the raffle, which helped to top up their funds to £270.
Andrew said: “I’ve been very impressed today by both staff and students and their attention to detail and enthusiasm for getting on-board with this national charity event.
“There have been some very creative bakers contributing to the cake sales and I was delighted to be able to experience a very relaxing hand and arm massage from one of our beauty students.
“The college always goes that extra mile when working on charitable initiatives, whether it’s for a fundraiser for a local group or a national good cause. We have a lot of kindness and selflessness within our college community and this makes me proud.”
