Painting on the park
A Mansfield park got a second spring clean last week courtesy of students from West Nottinghamshire College.
Students gave Fisher Lane park railings a new lease of life
Leading on from Mansfield District Council’s International Mansfield Clean Up Day, computer science and electrical studies learners donned their overalls and took paint pots and brushes to Fisher Lane park to give a fresh look to the iron railings in the car park off Rock Hill.
This is the second time students have volunteered for the campaign, which saw them collect over 30 bags of rubbish from the park in April.
The activity aimed to encourage Mansfields from across the globe to unite and help to make Mansfield the cleanest place in the world. The first ever International Mansfield Clean Up day took place last year and its success in clearing 200 bags of rubbish over one day earned the Keep Britain Tidy community award.
Student participation officer Karen Dunnill said: “Our group of nine students really put great efforts into rejuvenating the park railings.
“These students aren’t trained in painting and decorating, but they pulled out all the stops to sand, prime and paint the railings and we’re really proud of them committing their time to volunteering for the community.”
