Students wish it ‘wood’ be Christmas every day

Painting and decorating and joinery students at West Nottinghamshire College have joined together to create a crafty Christmas for charity.

  • Joinery level 1 and painting and decorating students entry level to 3 have made Christmas gifts
  • Proceeds from the sale of the gifts will go to Midlands Air Ambulance charity
  • Crafted from wood and hand-painted the goods will be sold at the college's Christmas market

The students, who are all on courses at the college’s construction academy in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, have been set an enterprise project to learn how to create a business plan, design and plan merchandise and manage budgets.

The creative bunch have used the skills they’re learning on their college courses to create and sell one-off novelty gifts for Christmas which include ‘Santa Please Stop Here’ signs, snowmen, Christmas trees and advent clock faces – all crafted from wood.

The group will be selling their items at the college’s Christmas market on Wednesday (4 December) at the college’s Derby Road campus and all proceeds will be given to the Midlands Air Ambulance charity.

Programme area leader for painting and decorating Dave Cope said: “Everyone has worked so well together pooling their creative talents together to make some really eye-catching and colourful products for Christmas.

“Students from entry level through to level three have used their business skills well to price the goods accordingly ensuring that they’re both reasonably priced but will create a good income for the air ambulance charity.”
