Basketball Academy Wins Three in a Row
Leicester Cannons 60 – WNC Mansfield Giants 86
WNC kept up the pressure on second place Shropshire with a comfortable victory away against the league bottom side Leicester. It was another solid performance from the young team although Leicester did make them work hard at times. Despite leading throughout the encounter, Leicester were as close as nine points in the fourth quarter with the score at 54-63. But the Giants closed out the game in style scoring 23 of the final 27 points to secure the win.
Alex Denholme top scored with 24 points while Kust Davy chipped in with another impressive display picking up 7 steals on his way to 18 points. Ian Burton netted 15 and Will Mott chipped in with 11.
Coach Matt Shaw commented “It was a strong team performance today. Everyone contributed and we play very well in patches. It’s always difficult to raise your game against weaker opponents, but I thought the lads stayed focused very well this afternoon”
Next week WNC are away to Worchester. It’s a must win game if they are to make the play-offs.
