College showcases talent at top UK careers event
Tutors from West Nottinghamshire College will be showing off their industry skills at the country’s biggest skills and careers event next week.
The Skills Show, which takes place at the NEC Birmingham from 15-17 November, provides a unique opportunity for young people to be inspired by and learn more about vocational courses and apprenticeships.
Exhibitors include college, universities and learning providers from across the UK who will advise people about the different entry routes into a host of career sectors. Visitors can meet employers and ‘have a go’ at bite-size tasters of a new skill or trade.
West Nottinghamshire College is one of the official sponsors of The Skills Show and tutors will be taking the best of their vocational talents to impress visitors at the college’s own FE feature area.
On Thursday and Friday (15 and 16 November) painting and decorating tutors will be taking to the stage as they create feathering and graining paint effects on canvas, while carpentry tutors will demonstrate their woodwork skills to create a child’s chair.
The computer science team will have their time in the spotlight on Saturday (17 November) when they show how to build computerised robots and create computer games.
Visitors will also have the chance to talk to representatives from the college about the range of apprenticeship vacancies available at the moment through the college’s recruitment service - Vision Apprentices.
Principal and chief executive Asha Khemka OBE said: “We’re very proud to be official sponsors of The Skills Show. This event is a fantastic opportunity to raise the awareness of how important vocational skills and careers are to the UK’s many industries.
“I’m delighted that we will be able to show visitors some of the vocational areas in which we really excel. I wish everybody competing in the WorldSkills UK competitions the very best of luck and I’m looking forward to seeing them put their vocational skills to the test.”
