College is sporting champion!
Students from West Nottinghamshire College took home a champions’ trophy this weekend after beating other colleges at a regional sporting event.
Nine students from West Notts took part in a range of sports at Sport Nottinghamshire’s FE Games 2012 on Friday (4 May), held at The University of Nottingham.
Colleges from across the county took part in mini-tournaments in games such as handball, seated volleyball, tug of war, five-a-side football, table tennis, badminton and a rowing machine relay.
The Games, created in partnership with The University of Nottingham and Championing Nottinghamshire, were designed to increase participation in sport while delivering a competitive element which is in keeping with the spirit of the forthcoming London 2012 Olympic Games.
West Notts College defeated closest opponents South Nottingham College by just one point and students took gold awards for their skills in archery, badminton and table tennis.
The college’s sport development co-ordinator Colin Eley said: “It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase some of the existing talent that West Notts has to offer and it was a great development route from the ‘Vision Games’ that we held the other week.
“To take the winning trophy was a proud moment for me and our competing students.”
