A world of careers at college event
Travel and tourism students from West Nottinghamshire College will spread the word about careers across the globe at an event next week.
Students on the BTEC Extended Diploma in Travel and Tourism course have invited several guest speakers from the industry to speak about career opportunities available to them after their studies.
On Wednesday (25 April) guests include representatives from Thomas Cook, Thomson, East Midlands Airport and Ryanair, as well as former college student Jamie White, who is set to embark on a new job as operations assistant and lifeguard at Disney International.
Jamie will speak to students about his time at Sheffield Hallam University, where he studied events management with arts and entertainment, and his forthcoming move to the USA to study at Central Michigan University while also working as a Disney International intern.
The careers event, at the Derby Road campus, is open to all other students currently studying travel and tourism, with performing arts students providing entertainment.
One of the organisers, Laura Baker, 17, said: “We’ve really enjoyed putting the careers event together, which has helped to develop our event management skills.
“This will be a great opportunity for students to discover the diverse range of jobs available in the travel and tourism industry and help them decide on their future career paths.
“I’m planning to go to university in September to study events management and travel and tourism, and this has given me vital experience towards that.”
