College celebrates Best Companies accreditation
West Nottinghamshire College has joined an elite group of organisations to be labelled a ‘first class’ employer.
That's because the College has been awarded ‘star status’ as part of the prestigious Best Companies accreditation scheme.
This means it will feature in the highly-respected Best Companies Guide and official website, which contain information on the UK’s best workplaces. The College has also received a special bronze plaque to put on display and can use the highly sought-after accreditation logo on its literature.
Best Companies accreditation follows the Michelin star-style rating system for organisations that show high levels of employee engagement.
Run by Best Companies Ltd – the company behind the 'Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For' listing – it uses a staff survey and questionnaire to look at factors including leadership, the employee’s relationship with their manager, how proud they are to work for the organisation, whether they feel challenged in their job and personal well-being.
Organisations then receive a Best Companies index score which determines their star rating. One star is first class, two stars are outstanding and three stars are extraordinary, while those who narrowly miss out are listed as ‘Ones to Watch’.
West Nottinghamshire College, which employs 1,200 staff, has been awarded one star at the first time of seeking accreditation.
A coveted 'star status' recognition award was presented to Principal and Chief Executive Asha Khemka OBE, Deputy Principal Tim Grant and Director of Human Resources Tracey Thompson at a glittering celebration event at The Cumberland Hotel, London, on Tuesday 27 January 2009.
Mrs Khemka OBE said: "This is a fantastic achievement and makes me very proud indeed. Best Companies accreditation carries great kudos and the fact that it is the result of excellent staff feedback is even more satisfying."
She added: "Above all, it shows the College has high levels of employee satisfaction, which comes from our efforts to support and engage with every member staff, and that the College is a great place to work."
