Jump-starting healthy living at West Nottinghamshire College
Students at West Nottinghamshire College will be encouraged to make a healthy start to the year, thanks to a series of roadshows taking place next week.
The college’s health, welfare and safeguarding team is running ‘Jumpstart January’ roadshows at various college sites aimed at getting students geared up for healthy eating and exercise in 2011.
Activities and advice lined up for learners include:
- Exercise hints and tips
- Healthy eating advice
- Losing weight the healthy way
- Best ways to get your ‘5-a-day’
- Fruit smoothie and fruit kebab-tasting
- Wii Fit challenges
There will also be fitness advice and activity sessions from DW Fitness staff, who will be on hand to discuss the special student offers at the Mansfield-based gym.
Health and wellbeing advisor, Kirsty Betts, said: “The week will focus on helping students to find their best route to fitness and personal wellbeing. Our advisors will be on-hand to give one-to-one support and show students that healthy eating and exercise needn’t be boring.
“We’ll have a range of healthy food for them to taste and we will welcome everyone’s feedback on the health and wellbeing surveys, which will help shape the future provision of health-related activities for our students.”
The events will be held on the following dates:
- Monday 17 January from 10am-2pm in the West One diner at the Derby Road campus, Mansfield
- Tuesday 18 January from 10am-2pm in the Gallery diner at the Chesterfield Road campus, Mansfield
- Wednesday 19 January from 10am-2pm in the student lounge at the Construction and Logistics Skills Academy, Station Park, Kirkby-in-Ashfield.
