Students to get industrious
Life at West Nottinghamshire College’s Chesterfield Road campus takes an industrious twist next week, with a series of specialist workshops delivered by creative professionals from across Nottinghamshire.
During ‘Industry Week’ (15-19 November), students will have the chance to visit a number of external creative venues such as local art galleries, Mansfield’s Odeon cinema to experience reviewing acting for the camera, The Palace Theatre to learn about the voice – an actor’s most valuable tool – as well as visiting the Mansfield Chad office to discover how to write entertainment reviews.
Creative workshops are being staged at the college relating to design, fashion, film, media, performance and art, which will enable students to meet some of the industry’s leading figures and pick up valuable advice to incorporate into their learning.
Among the workshops available, students will have the chance to learn photographic skills from a professional Vogue photographer, take top garment-making tips in a corsetry master class and learn about life as a theatre journalist.
Design technologists from Nottingham-based designer and global fashion brand, Paul Smith, will also be delivering a presentation to students pursuing careers in fashion and design.
Programme area leader for design and fashion, Juliet Aplin, said: “We’re really proud to have so many industry professionals coming to join us this year. I know our students are excited about meeting everyone and learning more about their specialist area within the creative arts.”
