Hair and beauty trophy success
Hairdressing and beauty therapy students at West Nottinghamshire College showed other regional colleges their creative talents at the East Midlands Hair and Beauty competitions this week.

Hosted by Stephenson College in Leicester on Wednesday (5 April), the East Midlands Hair and Beauty competitions featured competitors from Loughborough College, Derby College, West Nottinghamshire College, Stephenson College and Boston College.
Students at West Nottinghamshire College proudly scooped two first place trophies and two second place trophies in both hairdressing and beauty categories.
- VRQ Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy student Paula Bartnik, 21, won first place in the mini manicure competition.
- Level 1 Diploma in Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector student Megan Scott, 17, won first place in the blow-dry competition.
- VRQ Level 2 Diploma Hairdressing student Karen Albrighton, 52, won second place in the blow-dry competition.
- Level 3 Diploma in Hair and Media Make-up student Kathrine Thornley, 20, won second place in the bridal make-up competition.
Tutor Louise Bird said: “Everyone had a fantastic day and I was so proud to see every student showcasing an extremely high standard of professional skills.
“Even our students who weren’t placed in the final results did incredibly well and I’m very proud of their work.”
Tutors will now be looking at potential students to put forward into the WorldSkills UK competitions which bring together apprentices and young people from across the country to compete to be the best in their chosen skill.
