High praise for computer scientists
Computer scientists were rewarded for their year of success at an awards ceremony at West Nottinghamshire College this week.
Outstanding students proudly show off their certificates of achievement
Parents and friends joined students and tutors for the awards presentation and buffet and had the opportunity to view a showcase of students’ work in the Visual Art and Design Centre at the Derby Road campus.
Presented by computer science curriculum manager Trudi Dean, a range of special awards were given to students who are studying IT qualifications in software development and networking and system support on Tuesday (14 June).
Sixteen students were applauded for their 100% attendance over the year, while another twelve learners scooped a range of special awards:
The Extra Mile award – Amber Elliott
Game Developer of the Year award – Jacob Evans
Robot Wars Team Winners – Kalum Pepperday and Benjamin Deller
Outstanding Hardware Student of the Year – Joshua Atkinson
Outstanding Software Student of the Year – Daniel Turner
And Student of the Year awards were presented to: Sam Wilson, Joshua Burgess, Samuel Piper, Connor Barrett, Joseph Willows and Ross Fitch.
Trudi Dean said: “We’ve had such an eventful and successful year in computer science. The students really have given it their all and we’re delighted to reward them for their hard work and great efforts.
“We’ve seen students enter regional competitions, been on some interesting field trips and students have produced some really innovative and boundary-breaking project work. I’m very proud of all our students and the support given to them by the computer science team.”
