Sam's golden year at Gelder Group
A site joinery student at West Nottinghamshire College’s construction and logistics academy has been praised by tutors after scooping the 2009 Apprentice of the Year award at his workplace.
Sam White, 18, from Warsop, works as a third year apprentice joiner at Lincoln-based construction company, Gelder Group. Sam is studying the Level 3 diploma in site joinery at the college’s Station Park campus in Kirkby-in-Ashfield.
Site joinery involves fitting and fixing any type of joinery component ‘on-site’ such as doors, windows, stud partitions, stairs, roofs and floors.
Sam said: “I was really pleased with my award at the company’s annual award ceremony. It was a hard-working year both at work and in getting my skills at West Nottinghamshire College.”
Sam’s tutor Denis Vaughn is equally proud. He said: “Sam is naturally a very bright learner who has really matured and performs to his true potential. Sam is performing consistently well both at college and work, using his initiative and sensible logic and producing good practical standards with confidence and to good target times.”
