College tutor backs national film celebration
A multimedia tutor from West Nottinghamshire College is backing this year’s National Schools Film Week (NSFW) by giving a talk to school pupils about children’s animation film Coraline.
Brian Wilson will give the talk before a screening of the 3D fantasy film, starring Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders, at Mansfield’s Odeon cinema next week.
He said: “I aim to draw their attention to the way the film is made in the ‘stop-motion’ animation style.
“By giving pupils an insight into how films are made, it may encourage some to consider further study within multimedia and eventually a career in this exciting profession.”
NSFW runs from 15-23 October at cinemas throughout the country. It provides teachers and pupils with the opportunity to see a wide range of films in their area, free of charge. This event enables education to extend into local cinemas, giving teachers the opportunity to use the power of film to cover many different subjects.
West Nottinghamshire College offers full-time courses in multimedia at its Chesterfield Road site. The BTEC first diploma and BTEC national diploma courses cover animation, 3D modelling, music technology and graphic design.
Brian will give his talk to school pupils on 22 October, just before the 10am showing.
