Dionne is up for top travel industry award
Ex-West Nottinghamshire College travel and tourism student Dionne Ford has been nominated for one of the travel industry’s most prestigious awards.
Dionne (21), who now works for Hyde Barker Travel’s Ollerton branch, has been shortlisted for the Young Agent of the Year in the TTG Travel Awards, run by the industry’s leading trade newspaper, Travel Trade Gazette.
She awaits to see if she has won the award at a glittering ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel on 22 September. The awards are being judged by some of the biggest names in the travel industry such as Virgin Holidays and Thomson.
Dionne said: “I really enjoyed my time at West Notts College and I gained a wonderful insight into the tourism industry while studying on my level 1 course followed by the BTEC 1st Diploma. I am really proud to have been nominated by my employer for the award.”
Tutor Sarah Heeley remembers Dionne well. “These awards are very highly regarded within the travel industry and we’re proud that Dionne is doing well in her chosen career. She is a great example of the heights our students can reach when they work hard,” she said.
Director of Hyde-Barker Travel Robert Turner said: "We are justifiably very pleased that Dionne has been shortlisted for this very prestigious national award. We wish her every success at the event in September.
“Hyde-Barker Travel is one of the longest established travel agencies in the UK and generally considered to be amongst the 'crème de la crème' of travel retailers, and we are proud to have Dionne on board."
Hyde Barker Travel boasts having all employees at its three Nottinghamshire branches trained to NVQ Level 2 on the Customer Care course with West Nottinghamshire College.
