Skills for life praised at college

West Nottinghamshire College has retained a national accolade for its work with businesses across the country.

The college has been awarded the prestigious TUC Unionlearn Quality Award, which it first gained in 2009, for skills for life provision and how well it’s implemented functional skills within the workplace.

The Quality Award is awarded to educational providers whose learning programmes meet Unionlearn’s good practice criteria and who are working successfully and flexibly with their unions.

The college was praised for how well it works with Unionlearn representatives within companies that use the college for staff training. It was also praised for its flexible and bespoke study programmes which enable employees to access skills for life training.

The college’s functional skills project leader Debbie Brown said: “We’re very proud to hold this nationally-recognised training kite mark.  It’s a symbol of quality and excellence that’s acknowledged by employers and unions alike.

“We hope that this recognition of high-quality learning helps us continue to be a training provider of choice for many companies across country.”

Unionlearn was established in 2006 by the TUC to provide an ongoing framework to support union-led learning in England.
